PM Shehbaz Announces Rs100 Per Litre Fuel Relief for Bikes, Rickshaws and 800cc Cars
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special fuel relief scheme for motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis, three-wheelers and vehicles with engines up to 800cc as rising global oil prices continue to increase the financial pressure on Pakistani consumers. Under the new initiative, eligible vehicle users will receive relief of Rs100 per litre on petrol within specified monthly limits.
The announcement comes amid renewed concerns over international oil prices and their impact on Pakistan’s economy and household budgets. The government said the latest tensions in the Middle East and disruptions affecting important oil supply routes have contributed to the increase in global energy costs.
Rs100 Per Litre Petrol Relief Announced
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the new scheme is designed to provide targeted assistance to people who depend heavily on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for daily transportation and income generation.
Owners and users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and other two- and three-wheelers will receive a relief of Rs100 per litre on a monthly quota of 20 litres of petrol.
Meanwhile, owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc will be eligible for the same Rs100-per-litre relief on a monthly quota of 30 litres.
The targeted nature of the scheme means that the government is focusing its assistance on smaller vehicles that are widely used by lower- and middle-income households, commuters and people whose livelihoods depend on daily mobility.
Relief Scheme to Begin in Phases
The implementation of the fuel relief programme will begin at different times across the country.
In Islamabad, the scheme is scheduled to take effect from midnight on September 15, 2026. In the rest of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the relief is scheduled to begin from midnight on September 17.
Registration for the scheme has already been initiated, with the government saying that details about the registration and participation process will be communicated through a public awareness campaign.
The federal government has also acknowledged the cooperation of provincial authorities in providing information related to motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for the registration process.
Rising Fuel Prices Increase Pressure on Consumers
The announcement follows a period of significant volatility in Pakistan’s fuel market. Petrol prices have risen as international oil markets respond to geopolitical developments and concerns about disruptions to major supply routes.
The latest reported petrol price had reached Rs375.82 per litre, while high-speed diesel was priced at Rs403.32 per litre.
For motorcycle users, rickshaw drivers and owners of small cars, higher petrol prices can quickly translate into increased commuting and operating costs. The government’s targeted relief programme is therefore aimed at reducing part of that additional burden.
Government Faces Pressure to Control Fuel Costs
The announcement also comes as the government faces broader calls for measures to reduce the impact of fuel taxation and rising petroleum prices. Separate negotiations between the government and Jamaat-i-Islami are focusing on issues including the petroleum levy, with further talks scheduled for September 15.
The new relief scheme represents the government’s latest attempt to cushion selected consumers from the effects of higher petrol prices.
For eligible vehicle owners, the Rs100-per-litre relief could provide meaningful short-term assistance, particularly for people who use motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars for regular commuting or income-generating activities.
The effectiveness of the programme, however, will depend on smooth registration, transparent eligibility procedures and timely delivery of the promised relief.
