The 21-year-old achieved in a single innings what no Pakistani batter had managed across an entire Test career in the previous 15 years, instantly placing his name among the most remarkable debut performances in Pakistan’s cricketing history.

Batting at number nine with Pakistan facing the threat of an innings defeat after conceding a massive 320-run first-innings deficit, Razaullah launched a counterattack of the highest order. He finished with 81 runs off just 63 deliveries, including four fours and nine sixes in total. He targeted England’s pace attack throughout his innings, hitting Gus Atkinson for four sixes, Jofra Archer for three, and Josh Tongue for one, with his ninth six coming off part-time spinner Dan Lawrence.
Multiple Records Broken in One Innings
The nine sixes placed Razaullah level with New Zealand’s Tim Southee for the most sixes in an innings by a player on Test debut, matching Southee’s tally against England at Napier in 2008. He also equalled Ben Stokes’ record for the most sixes in a Test innings played in England, with Stokes having hit nine against Australia at Lord’s during the 2023 Ashes. Additionally, Razaullah reached his half-century in just 43 balls, becoming the fastest Pakistani to score a fifty on Test debut, surpassing Faheem Ashraf who had achieved the milestone in 52 balls against Ireland in 2018.

His 81 also stands as the highest score by a Pakistani batter on Test debut while batting at number nine or lower, surpassing Rashid Khan’s 59 scored from the number ten position against Sri Lanka. The innings was all the more significant given the precarious position Pakistan found themselves in when Razaullah arrived at the crease.
A Match-Saving Partnership with Abbas
Razaullah’s contribution extended beyond his individual batting. He combined with Mohammad Abbas for a crucial 121-run ninth-wicket partnership that completely transformed Pakistan’s innings. Abbas contributed a career-best 42 as the pair helped Pakistan post 449 in their second innings, setting England a target of 130 and taking the match deep into the fourth day, ultimately helping Pakistan avoid what had appeared to be an inevitable innings defeat.

Razaullah’s batting heroics came on top of an already impressive bowling performance, having taken four wickets in England’s first innings earlier in the match.
